Environmental Testing for Electric and Electronic Products

Part 2: Test Methods – Test A: Cold

  1. Scope

This part of GB/T 2423 specifies cold tests applicable to both non-heat-dissipating and heat-dissipating test specimens. Test Ab and Test Ad show no substantial differences from earlier versions. The addition of Test Ae primarily aims to evaluate equipment that requires continuous power operation throughout the test, including the cooling regulation phase.

The purpose of this cold test is limited to determining the ability of components, equipment, or other products to withstand use, transport, or storage in low-temperature environments.

This cold test is not intended to evaluate the specimen’s resistance to temperature variations or its operational capability under changing temperature conditions. In such cases, GB/T 2423.22 should be applied.

The cold test methods are subdivided as follows:

  • Cold test for non-heat-dissipating specimens:
    • Test Ab, with gradual temperature change.
  • Cold test for heat-dissipating specimens:
    • Test Ad, with gradual temperature change;
    • Test Ae, with gradual temperature change, where the specimen is powered throughout the test.

The test methods provided in this part are generally applicable to specimens that achieve temperature stability during testing.
